Mid-Ramadan of 2014, two aspirational and ambitious girls met during taraweeh prayer one night. Alaa greeted Lisa with her big smile and her larger-than-life outgoing personality. Alaa gleamingly showed Lisa dresses she designed and shared her excitement about a line she was launching.
Lisa been working in the modest fashion industry for a few years. Though Alaa and Lisa were both working on two very different projects, they decided to join forces and see what happens.
They started putting together shipments out of their closets, and within two weeks, they sold out. They were running out of space in the closet, so started working out of Alaa's living room - little did they know that a month later, they would have to get a warehouse due to the surplus of orders.
Two years later, Verona launched in Macy's. It was the first modest fashion brand to be launched and sold in a U.S department store. They reached a milestone and it felt too good to be true. They have been featured everywhere, from Vogue to Glamour Magazine, to even the New York Times.
Verona formed at a difficult time in both of their lives, and it provided a source of purpose and positive change. Verona was created to give women the confidence to be proud of who they are. Our hope and aim is to give women the opportunity to wear their identity with pride.
